Built between 1950-1974, Joseph Eicher built over 11,000 homes in nine Northern California communities, and 3 more in Southern California. Eichler was a social visionary who's goal was to provide for the needs of middle class Americans, by providing diverse communities which included parks and community centers, and adhering to a strict anti-discrimination policy in the sale of his homes.
The architecture is known as California Modern, and typically features, post and beam construction, glass walls, and slab floors containing radiant heating systems powered by water boilers and tubing imbedded in the concrete. Roof pitches varried from flat, low slope and high sloped A frame roof lines. Exterior was combination of floor to roof windows, and 2" vertical siding. The Atrium in an Eichler, was Eichlers expression of bringing the outdoors in, glass patio doors overlooking private atriums, patios, gardens and swimming pools.
Eichler homes are known to be airy and modern in comparison to the traditional home, and today, many people seek out the Eichler home for a sophisticated chic retro look. Many newer construction companies are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of Eichler in their design for kitchen and bath remodels and even radiant heating systems have been improved. We have proudly sold many Eichler homes over the course of the last 30 years, in addition to the traditional homes we also sell.
